Why Is My Laptop Overheating and How to Fix It?

Why Is My Laptop Overheating

A laptop overheating can be the result of too much heat inside the laptop and not enough air flow to release some of the heat. Find out what causes your laptop to overheat and how to fix it.

Why Is My Laptop Overheating?

Laptops are a necessity in the modern world. They help us to be productive and stay connected to the world. But when they overheat, they can cause severe damage to your laptop and even harm you.

There are many reasons a laptop may overheat, some of which are more common than others. The first thing that most people think of is that their laptop is not getting enough ventilation or airflow. This can be caused by having too many things on their desk blocking the vents on the bottom of their laptop or if they have it sitting on a bed or blanket where there is less airflow than on a desk surface. The second most common reason for overheating laptops is dust build-up inside the device - dust can clog up vents and prevent your laptop from getting enough airflow, which causes it to overheat. This article will discuss what causes laptops to overheat and how we can prevent them from overheating to keep our laptops safe.

Cooling down Your Overheating Laptop with These 5 DIY Solutions

The laptop is a modern-day necessity. But it can be a pain to use when it overheats or when you’re using it on your lap, and your thighs start burning. We have put together five DIY solutions to help keep your laptop from overheating or getting too hot. These solutions range from the simple to the more complicated. Still, they offer their benefits and help you stop your laptop from overheating.

  1. Use a laptop cooling pad: Laptops are generally designed to be used on hard surfaces to dissipate heat better; this is why they tend to get hot. A laptop cooling pad will help with this issue as it will provide a surface for your laptop that is not hard like most surfaces are and also has an airflow system built into the mat’s design which ensures that air circulates to the bottom of your laptop so that heat doesn't build up in one place and make it hotter than usual. The best thing about these pads is they can be soft or firm based on the temperature you are looking for.
  2. Use a laptop cooler: If you have a laptop that is still too hot to work on but not quite hot enough to warrant using a cooling pad, there is another option, a laptop cooler. These tend to be less expensive than other solutions and do an excellent job of cooling your device down so that it’s cool enough for use. The downside is that they don’t have the cooling system built into the mat like a cooling pad, so it’s not as efficient. Still, these are an excellent alternative if you don't need all the extra features that cooling pads come with.
  3. Get a desktop cooling fan: If your laptop is just too much to bear, and you want to cool it down fast, there is another option--a desktop fan. These tend to be much more expensive than other solutions. They can cost over $100, but they are a one-stop solution to cool down your entire laptop instantly. The downside is that they don’t have the cooling system built into the mat like a cooling pad, so it’s not as efficient. Still, these are an excellent alternative if you don't need all the extra features that cooling pads come with. Desktop cooling fans are great because they have a built-in power inverter and fan to run off just about any USB cord. Plus, it only takes one small wire to connect the fan to your power inverter, so you don’t need an extra outlet nearby. They have a powerful airflow, too--another benefit of these is that they can be placed on top of your desk while you work, so they don’t take up much space. A final option is a “suction-cup” style cooling pad. These are like your standard cooling pad, but they have suction cups, so they stick to your desk and won’t slide around while you work. There are some downsides, however--you don’t get the added power inverter or fan with this type of cooling pad, so it doesn't work as efficiently as desktop fans do. They also tend to be smaller than standard cooling pads and more expensive. Do It Yourself Cooling Pad: 1. Buy a desktop fan from Amazon or Walmart 2. Cut the cord off your desktop fan and attach the two ends to a USB cord 3. Stick the fan to whatever surface you want to cool
  4. Use beverage cans on your desk as makeshift standoffs for your cooling pad.
  5. Use one of your desktop fans as a stand for the other. Then both sit on the beverage cans. The popular Cooling Pad is a cooling pad with a fan attached to it and an AC power plug. It comes with a USB cord to plug into your computer and an AC power plug into the wall. The fan is powerful enough to keep your PC cool, and there's a big, flat surface for you to place it on. Many people find this cooling pad beneficial to keep their computers from overheating. The fan creates a large amount of airflow that quickly circulates and cools your computer down. The downside of this cooling pad is that it doesn't have any power inverter built in, so it will not work when plugged in. It only comes with a USB cord, and you'll need to plug the AC power plug into the wall to use it.

Other Ways to Fix Your Laptop from the Overheating Problem

How to Know if Your Laptop Is Overheating and if It Gets Too Hot

Many warning signs indicate that your laptop is overheating. If you see the laptop's fan running at full speed, your laptop is likely overheating. The fan will also be running if the laptop case feels warm to the touch or if your laptop makes a loud noise.

We recommend using software like MWSoft that will scan your hardware, like the CPU, GPU, RAM, and Disks, to detect malfunctions like the overheating issue.

It doesn't mean it's overheating if you use your laptop, and it feels hot. Using software will give you certainty.
